The city of Rolling Hills is situated on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Los Angeles County, California, in the United States of America. This city was founded by a group of people in September 1957, to enjoy a rural atmosphere and equestrian environment. There are over thirteen neighbourhood communities with individual characters and they all have the same appearances as it was over sixty years ago. The homes in this community are single-storied with a ranch designed by Wallace Neff and have three entry gates. This is a multi-acre community that has private roads, no traffic lights, ample space between homes and wide equestrian roads within the community.

The Rolling Hills community witnesses the third-highest median house rate in the United States. All the homes in this community are required to be painted white from outside and the citizens are expected to maintain the property of the horse where there is a possibility of building stalls. This community was developed by A.E. Hanson, the developer of Hidden Hills.

The commercially zoned area within the city is occupied by the Rolling Hills City Hall and Rolling Hills Community Association. Rolling Hills is just a few minutes away from Los Angeles and it allows the residents to work, attend schools and enjoy other important services in the other towns of the Palos Verdes Peninsula without much difficulty.

The city of Rolling Hills is surrounded by Rolling Hill Estates in the north and Rancho Palos Verdes on the other sides including the vacant Portuguese Bend landslide region in the south.

According to the 2010 census, the Rolling Hills ranks 21st rich among the richest countries in the United States, based on its per capita income. It is also the 4th richest place among the population of at least 1000 people.

The population of the city was decreased to 1,860 as of the 2010 census that was 1,871 at the 2000 census.

The population of the Rolling Hills was 1,860 as of the 2010 census and its density was 622 people per square mile (240.1/ km²). The city consists of people of different races and it was divided as 77.3% White, 1.6% African American, 0.3% Native American, 16.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific Islander, 1.3% from other races and 3.2% from one or two races. Hispanic or Latino was 5.5% with any race.

The entire population of the city lived within the same community with no institutionalization for any particular group.

The total number of household was 663 and it consists of 30%  children under the age of 18 years, 74.1% were opposite-sex married couples, 4.1% were female householders without a husband, 3.2% had male householder without a wife. The household also has 1.7% unmarried opposite-sex partners, 1.4% same-sex married couples, 14.8% were single person and 10% with a single person aged 65 or above. The median size of the household was 2.81 and the median size of the family was 3.08.

The community consists of people of different age groups. The age was distributed as 21.7% under the age of 18, 5.9% were between 18-24, 10.3% between 25-44, 34/6% between 45-64, 27.6% were 65 or older. The average age was 51.7 years. For every 100 females, there were 91.8 males and for every female aged 18 and above, there were 91.1% males. The ratio of males and females are 91.8 males per 100 females overall and 91.1 males per 100 females under the age of 18.

All the 633 housing units were at an average density of 239.4 per square mile(92.4/ km²). Among those, 635 were occupied by owners and 28 were occupied by renters. The vacancy rate of homeowners and renters are 1.4% and 3.4% respectively.

There was a population of 1871 people as of the 2000 census with a population density of 607.7 people per square mile (234.5/ km²). The racial distribution of the Rolling Hills was 79.8% White, 2% African American, 14% Asian, 0.5% Pacific Islander, 1.2% from other races and 2.5% from more than one race. Hispanic or Latino we’re 4.5% of any race.

The total number of household was 645, among them 33.8% we’re children under the age of 18, 80.6% we’re married couples, 3.4% female householder without husband, 14.1% were not family. The household also consists of 12.4% as single person and  8.1% has single person aged 65 or above. The median size of the household was 2.90 and the median size of the family was 3.11.

The residents’ age distribution in the community was 25.9% under the age of 18, 4.8% between 18-24, 15.1% between 25-44, 32.8% between 45-64 and 22.1% were 65 or above. The average age was 48 years. The ratio of males and females are 96.1 males per 100 females overall and 92.5 males per 100 females under the age of 18.

The average income of a household is more than $200,000 that is the income of an average family. The average income of males and females are $100,000 and $52,500 respectively. The population of about 1.7% and families of about 1.1% were living with sufficient income. This includes 2.6% of people under the age of 18 and people aged 65 or above.

Education of Rolling Hills California

Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District runs the public schools of the Rolling Hills. The schools of PVPUSD have always been ranked amongst the top schools in California. The Palos Verdes Peninsula High School was also once ranked 8th for its performance in the province by the Washington post and it also recognised the school in the list of “America’s Most Challenging Schools” since 2013. This school was also ranked 9th by the school data website, niche.com in 2016.

There is Rolling Hills Country Day School for the nurtured growth of students serving the grades from K-8 grades. Then there is another well known public school namely Chadwick School, situated on the Academy Hills, which covers an area of 45 acres, serving the grades from K-12. As stated by Business Insider, niche.com ranked it among the best private high school in the United States.

The Rolling Hills has a library within the city. The Peninsula Centre Library is operated by the Palos Verdes Library district in the city.

Politics of Rolling Hills California

The Rolling Hills is recorded to have the 3rd highest percentage of the Republicans with 61.3%, Democrats were 19.4% and 16.4% were ‘declined to state’ of its 1441 registered voters in 2009.

The number of registered voters as of 10th February 2021 was 1577, in Rolling Hills, California. Out of 1577, 46.3% were registered Republicans, 24.6% were Democrats, 22.64% were from a non-registered party, 6.2% were from a registered third party. Rolling Hills is reported to be one of the ten incorporated municipalities of the most registered Republicans than  Democrats in Los Angeles County.

Rolling Hills has been voting in large numbers for the Republican Party since 1962. In the 2016 election, Donald Trump hardy got 21% votes by Los Angeles County and it was also one of the five countries that were run by him. In the year 2020, Trump’s re-election bid was supported by them by a margin of 11.84%, and it was reported to be the lowest winning margin of a Republican since 1964 and since Rolling Hills official incorporation as a city.

Rolling Hills was formally incorporated in the year 1957 and it is governed by a the council-manager form of government. There were five members in the city Council of which, one is annually appointed as the Mayor.

The Rolling Hills Estates, in the California State Legislature, comes under the 26th Senate District and the 66th Assembly District which are represented by Ben Allen and Democrat Al Muratsuchi.

Rolling Hills, in the United States House of Representatives also comes under California’s 33rd Congressional District which was represented by Democrat Ted Lieu.
